Behind the Scenes with George to the Rescue

When I first got the call to join George to the Rescue, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. As a professional organizer, I'm used to being behind the scenes—sorting, planning, decluttering, and quietly transforming chaos into calm with my amazing team of pro organizers. But this time, I was going to be on a television set, part of a surprise home renovation for a truly deserving family. It was my first time working on a TV production (aside from my own social media clips), and let me tell you—it was nothing short of unforgettable.

The episode centered around Tiffany, a single mom raising two incredible girls, Mia and Ava, with special needs. This woman was doing it all, juggling a demanding schedule of school and therapies while working full time and managing a household that just didn’t support their day-to-day needs. Both mom and her girls were all sleeping in the same bed every night because the furnace was located inside one of the girls' bedroom closets! Aside from being a potential safety hazard, the girls were terrified of it and refused to sleep in their own beds. The first floor had a choppy layout without direct lines of sight from room to room - definitely not ideal for a mom trying to manage two young kids with special needs. When George to the Rescue stepped in, I knew it was an opportunity to not just organize a home, but to truly change lives.

Before the big surprise renovation reveal, my team and I came in to help with the decluttering and packing process. We worked closely with Tiffany and the team of therapists who work with the girls to streamline belongings, sort out what mattered most, and prepare the space so Vinci Contracting could work their magic on the construction side of things. In just six weeks, they completed a stunning full first-floor renovation, and moved that scary furnace out of the closet, while the family temporarily relocated. The biggest surprise: while on the job Sam, the owner of Vinci Contracting, decided to not only focus on opening up the living room to make it more of an open concept, but to also give them a brand new kitchen! More storage space that Tiffany desperately needed as well as upgrades to everything from countertops to appliances.

Post-renovation, my team and I returned to do what we do best: create systems that support daily life. We organized closets so everything has a home and so that both girls have space in the new bedroom closet. We outfitted the new home office to keep mom on top of her busy schedule. Working with the Vinci design team, we gave the girls a beautifully organized bedroom tailored to their unique needs and personalities. And that brand-new kitchen? It’s not only gorgeous—it’s now incredibly functional, with everything in its place and a layout that makes cooking and mealtime easier.

One of my favorite additions was helping set up a Skylight digital calendar for the family—a visual, interactive way for mom to manage school, therapy appointments, and family time. It’s more than a calendar; it’s peace of mind in digital form, and she was blown away by the photo stream aspect of it! All of the therapists now have access to the digital calendar so everyone can be on the same page for scheduling, freeing up precious hours Tiffany was previously devoting to manual scheduling for everyone.

This project was about more than renovation or organization—it was about giving a hardworking mom and her daughters a home that finally supports them. It was about restoring ease, creating space for joy, and helping them breathe a little easier in their daily lives.

Being on George to the Rescue stretched me in new ways and reminded me why I do this work. Seeing the look on this family’s faces when they saw their new home? That’s a moment I’ll never forget.

Thank you to George to the Rescue, Vinci Contracting, my amazing team, and most of all, this inspiring family for letting us be a small part of your big transformation.

XO,

Trish
